Where to get your
Wheelchair, Engine and Battery |

Wheelchair: The wheelchair that we have designed the first MOtive kit to fit is the Invacare A4.
We may develop kits in the future for other chairs, but if you want one in the near future, this is the only Model that it will fit.**
Here are the configurations that we have tested or are confident will work with the current MOtive Kit design.
Invacare A4:
Aluminum or Titanium
"V" Front or Taper Front.
15"-18" Seat Width *
14"-18" Seat Depth *
19"-20" Seat front to floor*
15"-16" Seat rear to floor*
24" Main wheel size
0-6 Degrees camber
3"-6" Castor Wheels (bigger is better)
Doesn't work with suspension main axles.
*Other dimensions should work, but we haven't tested them.
RECOMMEND:
Seat positioning strap (seat belt)
Seat Cushion
Rigid Side guards (protect hips from tires)
Bariatric wheels (see Accessories page)

**There may be other wheelchair designs that the MOtive Kit will work on, but we are not aware of any.
You can try it on other chairs, but you are responsible to make sure it will function safely.

Engine: The engine we recommend is a 50cc 4-stroke Honda clone, with electric start and CV automatic transmission.
We used the engine with the upper starter motor, but the lower starter motor engines should work as well.
At the bottom of the section, we have listed some links to companies selling this type of engine.
Make sure your engine includes the following components. If it doesn't, you will have to buy them seperately:
Intake Manifold
Carburetor
CDI Control Module
Starter Solenoid
Rectifier
Ignition Coil
If the seller doesn't specifically list them, ask before buying.
All these engines, we have found, are built in China and are based on the Honda 50cc design.
We have only purchased engines from GIO Bikes and so far have been pleased with their service and the quality of the engines.
Also, the GIO Bikes had the best pricing, at the time we last checked, and included all the components listed above.
We have also purchased an engine off Ebay. At any given time there will be one or more being listed.

Battery: The Motive engine mount kit has been designed to accept a specific size battery.
There are various types such as;liquid cell, gel-cell, flooded, or glass matt available.
Gel-Cell and Glass matt are prefered for racing or off-road use, since they won't spill if turned upside-down.
Otherwise, the most critical things are 12V and the overall dimensions.
12 Volt
The battery size is:
4 1/2"L x 2 13/16"W x 4 3/16"H
There are several battery numbers that will work.
Most will have "5L-BS" in the number.
Here are some examples:

When you ask for a battery, they may ask for the application (Year, Make, Model, etc...)
The Motive is so new and unique that it won't be listed in their books or computer.
Give them the list of numbers above and they can cross-reference the numbers.
Then have them check the overall dimensions before you buy.
