| Do you supply fully assembled units? | We do not supply assembled wheelchairs. Seperately, the wheelchair, engine and kit are all UPS or Postal Service shippable. If they were assembled, we would have to ship them by freight. This would require you to have a fork truck or other way to unload a pallet from a truck. |
| Why don't you supply the engine? | Several reasons: To keep costs low. If we had to order, ship the engines to us, stock, and ship the engine to you, we would have to charge for those services. Instead, we let you know where you can get them directly, saving you money.Some people may want to use different brands of engine.Some people may already have an engine they wish to use. |
| Why don't you supply the wheelchair? | Similar to the engine question... This allows for lower cost and you may already own a useable wheelchair or be able to buy a used one. |
| Does the engine have to be electric start? | Yes, It would be difficult if not impossible to hand start one of these engines, and we haven't made any attachment to allow for hand starting. |
| Does the engine have to have an automatic transmission? | Yes, we have not developed a hand shifting mechanism. |
| Does it have Reverse? | Yes, sort of... to back up, you wheel the chair by hand. |
| Can I use a bigger engine? | Yes. But, we have tested larger engines and the performance gains are not significant. We actually have to restrict the speed of the recommended 50cc engine to prevent the engine from over-reving and to keep the chair's speed in a safe comfortable range. |
| Can I drive it indoors? | This depends on the building. Most public buildings will not allow you to run a gasoline powered vehicle indoors. You can, however, wheel the chair around by hand.
Running the engine in a confined space, like a garage, will create dangerous levels of carbon monoxide, a poisonous gas. |
| Does it have a fuel guage? | No, it doesn't have a fuel guage. You can visually check the fuel by removing the cap and looking inside. |
| Does it have a reserve tank? | We do offer an optional reserve tank with a holder that mounts to the MOtive frame. |
| Can you refuel it from the seat? | Yes, if you are flexible enough. Try turning around in your current chair. Could you comfortably reach something behind you now? If so, then refueling shouldn't be a problem. |
| Is it street legal? | Check on your city and state laws concerning "motorized wheelchairs." The states we have checked do allow operation under some circumstances. (we have not checked all states) |
| Can I drive it on the sidewalk? | Check on your city and state laws concerning "motorized wheelchairs." The states we have checked do allow operation on sidewalks. (we have not checked all states) |
| Can I drive it in rain or snow? | We have tested the MOtive in both rain and snow. It handles well in rain or wet conditions. In snow, we experienced a slight loss of traction on the drive wheels. |
| Will it fit other brands of wheelchair? | We have only designed it to fit an Invacare A4. We are considering designing attachments for other models of wheelchair. Please email us with your recommendation for the NEXT chair. |
| Why do you restrict the speed? | To prevent the engine from over-reving. Also, the restrictor is intended to keep the speed at a safe comfortable level. |
| Who can use this chair? | If you have enough coordination and upper body strength to operate a manual wheelchair, then you have enough to operate a MOtive. Unfortunately, this chair will not meet everyone's needs. | |
